Rosario, Sara and Janet’s arrest shows what it means to be a leader, to stand up for your community and your dreams. As Sara states, “I’m getting arrested is to show the urgency that Undocumented Youth face every day when they are unable to follow their dreams of obtaining a higher education.” Undocumented youth will not remain silent. We will no wait any longer listening to false promises! We demand as New Yorkers for Gov Cuomo to acknowledge our contributions and potential. Undocumented New York youth deserve the equal opportunity to continue with our college education. As Rosario says “I believe everyone should have a legitimate opportunity at achieving their dreams, so I fully support the increased accessibility to higher education that the NY DREAM Act would grant to undocumented youth.” Janet who was brought to the US at the age of 11 months old from Mexico has been through it all “loneliness, depression, anxiety of what’s to come or not to come, delusional, loss of hope for the future, facing challenges and circumstances because of my status. It’s hard.” Yet, she strongly believes that by getting arrested she will be sending a strong message to our representatives and communities to stand up with us and support the NY Dream Act.
