If you are an undocumented student and are looking for free legal advice, then look no further. You must visit Educators for Fair Consideration (www.E4FC.org).
E4FC was started in 2006 by Carrie Evans and Katharine Gin, two educators with over 25 years of combined experience working with low-income, minority youth. They were astonished by the lack of information, resources, and support available to immigrant students without legal status.
Together they were motivated and decided to help students who came to the United States as children, were educated and had excelled in this country, and thought of themselves as American. They ran into the same problems as anyone else who has dealt with our undocumented students; when these students were ready to graduate from high school and go on to college, they found themselves excluded from most of the opportunities afforded to their native-born classmates — i.e. government financial aid, work-study jobs, internships, loans, and many private scholarships.
Over the past five years, E4FC has grown into an active and close-knit community of immigrant students, educators, attorneys, activists, parents, and artists. Together, they work incredibly hard to offer a comprehensive suite of programs and services that address the financial, legal, political, professional, and socio-emotional needs of immigrant students who do not yet have residency or citizenship.
Specifically, they provide scholarships, legal case analysis, career internships, workshops, mentoring, and original educational materials.
Although there are many national and local groups and organizations serve immigrant youth, E4FC is unique in three ways:
- Theyhave an exclusive focus on immigrant youth who do not have residency or citizenship,
- They utilize a holistic approach to addressing students’ needs, and
- Their free legal services for undocumented students!
E4FC has created a partnerships with AILA DREAM Defenders, and support undocumented young adults who are facing deportation. E4FC is one of seven organizations that have come together to match qualifying undocumented young adults with immigration attorneys who will provide legal services free of charge.
Justicia Hoy is now participating with E4FC to conduct initial case analysis for undocumented students and we could not be more excited! If you are a DREAMer or undocumented student and want us to analyze your case or immigration situation, then please visit:
