Memoirs of a Mojado

Growing up undocumented was a very unique experience for me.  Later in college, I learned that I was not alone. Sometimes my experiences were funny and sometimes they were incredibly sad, but these experiences made me who I am today. We want to know what’s your story?

Justicia Hoy, in collaboration with other organizations, will be collecting YOUR stories on your experiences growing up undocumented.  We want to show the world that there is more to us than being “illegal” and that our stories matter. Let’s put a face to this struggle and show them what we’ve endured and how we overcame our challenges. You may submit under any of the following categories:

1. Humor

2. Struggles and Overcoming Challenges

3. Loss

4. Education

5. Love

6. Future Aspirations

7. The Journey Here/Home

8. Gratitude

You could still be undocumented or you could be a US citizen or resident now. You don’t have to be in the US to submit your story.

We will create a special site with your written or video stories and have a special exhibit later next year in New York City which will include the stories you submitted and any other relevant information as well. Your stories will also be featured in a book that will be published next year, with the proceeds going to scholarships for undocumented students in the United States.

We will help you edit and provide credit in the exhibit and the book and of course, if possible, we would hope you would attend both the exhibit and the book launch.  This project is a community project with the hopes that you all feel a sense of ownership over the book and the work that you submit.
